"I am interested in the influences of design on culture and vice versa, particularly as exemplified in history. Much of my research explores alternatives for understanding the evolution of interior space in the twentieth century. I am currently working on a book manuscript that documents and interprets the history of architectural storage elements and the ways in which they help to define modern interior space. I am also interested in investigating the theoretical implications of hand-making processes in our technologically focused age. My goals as a teacher include enhancing the applicability of history in design studio education by defining theoretical connections between the past and the present."

Professor Beecher teaches courses in the history of interior architecture, color in the built environment, architectural research methods and intermediate design studios. She is also affiliated with the historic preservation program.
