"I tend to expand the discipline of architecture with an archaeological and anthropological approach.  I am interested in how art, architecture and interior design relate to each other and in how places, buildings, and interiors transform over time. My research dismantles or takes apart existing monumental or everyday settings, structures and cultural systems in order to reinterpret relationships and meanings. Specifically, I examine the role light plays as a catalyst for new structure and form in ancient and modern religious buildings. I also look at contemporary village vernacular and how modernization is changing settlement patterns. Most of this work takes place in what is considered the modern Middle East. In addition, my professional background includes residential, religious, commercial, lighting and furniture design."

Prior to teaching at Oregon, Professor Snyder taught at Pratt Institute in New York City.  She teaches interior and architectural design studios, preparation for the interior architecture comprehensive design project and seminars related to her research.
